Artist Maggie Johnson presents a series of paintings which draw inspiration from a year spent living in Kuta — a laid-back, ever-shifting tourist town on the southern coast of Lombok, Indonesia.
 
‘Life in Kuta moves to the rhythm of the ocean: the surf calls, street dogs stretch out under the early morning sun, and local sellers charm passersby with their warmth.

The title references a friendly local t-shirt seller who would stroll the beach each day, parting with the phrase: “See you when I see you — and if I don’t see you, I won’t see you.” It’s a sentiment that seems to capture the essence of my subjective experience in Kuta: a place where time feels suspended, expectations are light, and people live in the moment, taking each day as it comes.’
